Mu Lambda Omega Chapter Shows Up for Heart Health at Pink Goes Red
Los Angeles came alive with rhythm, purpose, and sisterhood as members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®—Mu Lambda Omega Chapter joined fellow chapters and community partners for the 16th Annual Pink Goes Red event, a signature initiative focused on heart health, wellness, and collective action.
Hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®—Theta Mu Omega Chapter in partnership with The Pink Tea Rose Foundation, Pink Goes Red took place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Southwest College Gymnasium. This year’s theme—Soul Line Dancing for Heart Health—highlighted movement as both medicine and message, underscoring the importance of accessible, joyful physical activity in addressing cardiovascular disease, which continues to disproportionately impact Black communities.
Mu Lambda Omega members were present, engaged, and energized, standing shoulder to shoulder with sisters across Los Angeles in support of a cause that aligns deeply with Alpha Kappa Alpha’s legacy of service and health advocacy.
Movement with Meaning
At the heart of the event was soul line dancing—an inclusive, high-energy activity that brought participants of all ages to their feet. The line dances were taught by J&J Soulful Steps, whose expert instruction and infectious spirit transformed the gymnasium into a space of celebration, connection, and cardiovascular awareness. Through music and movement, attendees were reminded that taking care of your heart doesn’t have to be intimidating—it can be communal, fun, and empowering.
More Than a Dance Floor
Pink Goes Red also served as a community health fair, offering opportunities for education, engagement, and supporting critical heart health organizations, including:
The Black Heart Association, and
The American Heart Association
Participants were also encouraged to donate socks to take part in the event’s opportunity drawing—an added layer of service that reinforced the event’s holistic approach to community wellness.
Collective Impact Through Collaboration
The success of Pink Goes Red was made possible through collaboration among several Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® chapters, including: Alpha Gamma Omega, Mu Beta Omega, Mu Lambda Omega, Tau Beta Omega and Tau Tau Omega. The event also recognized the support of the Charles R. Drew Medical Society, further emphasizing the shared commitment to health equity, education, and prevention.
A Living Expression of Service
For Mu Lambda Omega Chapter, participation in Pink Goes Red was more than attendance—it was a living expression of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s enduring mission to uplift communities through service, advocacy, and education. By showing up, moving together, and supporting heart health initiatives, the chapter helped amplify a message that is both urgent and enduring: our health matters, our communities matter, and collective action saves lives.
