MLO Hosts Culver City Councilmember Yasmine-Imani McMorrin

MLO hosted a coffee sip and chat with Councilmember Yasmine-Imani McMorrin, the first African American woman, at 33 years old, to be elected to the Culver City City Council!  We were able to hear from Councilmember McMorrin what her trajectory was like to her current place in Culver City history.  We were able to express our support and our pride in her accomplishments.  We were able to speak about our work in the Culver City community and our desire to be of service in new and exciting ways. We were able to hear what her passions are and what her vision is for Culver City.

She is passionate about 1) infusing equity, diversity and inclusion in the Culver City policies and practices; 2) increasing the minimum wage in Culver City on scale with neighboring cities;  3) creating permanent housing for the unhoused, and 4) implementing a social service crisis response team to provide an alternative to a militarized police response to non-violent human issues, such as issues related to the unhoused or other mental/social health issues that are better served by professionals other than the police.

MLO members were able to share and engage and ask questions and have meaningful dialogue with Councilmember McMorrin.  It was a very successful meeting of the minds and hearts.  She expressed how special it was to be able to come as her authentic self and talk to like-minded women who share her commitment to service and to making a difference in the communities that we serve.   She definitely felt the MLO love!
